Crazy Weekend

The weekend started out pretty good. Gotta give props to Barry's football team. They WON a game!! WooHoo!! Our town had a fall festival that same night, so the boys and I chose to go to that instead. Tanner and Jackson both scored some calculators. Jackson uses his as a phone. He says hello? hello? Just waiting for someone to answer...very cute!
After we got home, I had a test to take. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Open book, but a lot of work I wasn't planning on. I finished it with 29 minutes to spare thinking I'd done a pretty good job. I got a D! What?! Who gets a D on an open book test!!! Apparently me!
Right before I went to bed, I ate a granola bar. No big deal, right? Wrong!! It felt like I got a piece of it stuck in my throat. I'm totally freaking out! Choking is a huge fear of mine. So, I pray. I realize I'm still breathing and that I must be ok, so I go to bed. Wake up in the a.m. feeling fine. Thank you, Lord. I get the boys some Lucky Charms to eat, while grabbing a handful and popping them in my mouth. I don't know how this happened, but a piece of Charm got stuck in my throat. I started dry heaving. Oh No, I thought...I'm choking again!!! You'd think by now I'd realize I'm not really choking. I pray again. Anyway, I try to decide what to do. Pray some more. Should I call 911? Nah, I'll call my mother who totally thinks I overexaggerate things. It took her like 20 minutes to get to me. I continue to pray, dry heave, pray, dry heave. After calling urgent care, they told me there would be nothing they could do and if necessary to go to the ER. They suggested I eat a small piece of bread. I did this and everything was fine for about 4 hours. By 6, I was ready to make a trip to the ER. My mom was over to watch the Tigers game, so she kept the boys for us. We didn't have to wait very long to be looked at. They hooked me up to an IV and made me drink a horrible drink-Mylanta cocktail...yuck! It numbed my throat, so I felt a lot better. Until I saw the Tigers score!!! I probably should have prayed for them too! They decided to keep me, so they could do a scope in the morning. I finally got to my room about 1 am, but I didn't get to sleep until 2. I was up by 5 when the nurse came into to take my vitals. I fell back asleep (a nervous wreck), but was up again at 7 when my dad called to check on me. I couldn't get back to sleep due to anxiousness, so I called my good friend Stephanie to calm me with prayer. She's a fantastic prayer warrior, and His presence set me free. A little before 1 this afternoon they came and got me for the procedure. Within 20 minutes, I was out cold. When I woke up an hour later, they said everything went fine. Praise the Lord! They took biopsies in 3 places, and I have minor irritation. They also stretched out my esophagus which seemed to be the problem. This week I'm to have my gall bladder checked just as a precaution. I'm going to need lots more prayer!! For now, I'm headed to bed. I'm exhausted from this crazy weekend!

Hey Rachel-
That sounds like a weekend that started great and just kept going down hill from there. Brian's sister had a kink in her esophagus about a year ago and had to get that procedure done too to stretch it and straighten it out. She had said it was not a lot of fun. But she doesn't choke on the food like she used too. I am glad you are doing better. When you are in town sometime give me a call and we can get together! Take care- Nicole
